Machine Operator

Role Summary:

In charge of ensuring packaging machine (bailers) operate correctly. In charge of ensuring correct packaging is used during order. Performing maintenance on machine.

Education And Training For This Role:

Responsible for the proper operation of their machine.  Responsible for any bruising that may occur in their area, whether it is from potatoes dropping because of plugging or inconsistent flow, or equipment causing the damage.  Responsible for servicing, maintenance and cleaning of machine.  Monitor the efficiency of the machine being operated.

Skills Needed For This Role:

High school education; or up to six months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minor knowledge of electricity and mechanics.

Essential Role Functions:

  • Ability to communicate and pass information along simply and in an easy way to understand.

  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.   Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and ear plugs are mandatory when operating the Hagan sizers.
